We’re delighted to be supporting the team at Wrexham with the recruitment of a Head of IT for the business. This is a crucial role which will lead on the clubs technology strategy.

Role Purpose

The Head of IT will lead the club’s technology strategy and deliver robust, secure, and innovative digital solutions that enhance performance on and off the pitch. This role oversees all IT operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data systems, and technology support across the football club—including stadium, training ground, academy, retail, ticketing, and business operations.

The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership, ensuring the club’s technology environment supports elite football performance, exceptional fan experience, commercial growth, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

IT Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and deliver a club-wide IT strategy aligned with football, commercial, and operational objectives.
  • Lead the IT department, including staff management, performance reviews, and resource planning.
  • Manage IT budgets, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Oversee all hardware, software, networking, cloud, and on‑premises systems across all club sites.
  • Ensure high availability of critical systems on matchdays, including Wi‑Fi, POS systems, security networks, and broadcast connectivity.
  • Maintain secure, resilient IT infrastructure for player services, coaching systems, and administrative operations.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Implement robust cybersecurity protocols, policies, and monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
  • Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and disaster recovery planning.

Football Technology

  • Support performance‑related technology, including GPS tracking systems, video analysis tools, athlete databases, and scouting platforms.
  • Work with coaching, medical, and analysis teams to ensure seamless operation of performance systems.
  • Oversee integration of data systems to enable high‑quality insights for football departments.

Fan Experience & Stadium Technology

  • Lead digital transformation initiatives enhancing fan engagement (e.g., ticketing, mobile apps, digital signage, turnstile systems).
  • Oversee matchday technology support to ensure flawless operations.
  • Drive innovations that modernise the stadium experience and improve efficiency.

Business Systems & Support

  • Manage business applications, including ERP/finance systems, CRM, HR tech, and internal communication tools.
  • Ensure timely and effective IT support for all departments.
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes for staff technology and access.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud services, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience managing multimillion-pound technology budgets and strategic planning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, particularly during matchdays and high-profile events.

Desirable

  • Experience working in sports, entertainment, or stadium environments.
  • Familiarity with football performance technologies and data platforms.
  • Knowledge of ticketing systems, POS, and stadium operations.
  • ITIL, CISSP, Prince2, or similar certifications.

Working Conditions

  • Based across club sites (stadium, training ground, academy).

  • Occasional travel as required (e.g., away matches, partner visits, training).
